How to Apply

If you would like to apply, please follow the guidelines below and make your submission in the requested format.

The following documents and processes will be used to determine your suitability for the post:

Stage 1 Interviews

  3. A ‘Round-Robin’ scenario with Board and staff members
  4. An interview with Board members and an ema representative

Each of these documents and processes seeks to elicit evidence against the 15 Key Responsibilities and Person Profile (see role and person profile tab).

With the exception of the psychometric test, you are/will be asked to provide evidence of your actions and achievements in your current and previous role(s), the impact they have had and your learning from the experience.

Stage 1 Guidance

The CV and letter of application will be used for the initial sifting of applications. A template is provided for the letter - please use this template.

In preparing your CV and letter, bear in mind that the selection panel is looking for recent, relevant sector experience and evidence of achievement and performance improvement.

Please don’t deviate from the format and guidance provided, otherwise your application will not be carried forward to the next step.

Application - Stage 1

1. Your Letter

This is in two parts:

Part 1: Your personal statement

Part 2: A set of statements against 8 of the 15 key responsibilities (see role profile)

Part 1: Your personal statement

  • This must be contained on one side of A4 and written in 11-point font.
  • This is your opportunity to explain how your values, qualities and experience match the Person Profile.
  • We do not expect you to cover everything - tell us what you believe your strengths are supported by illustrative examples.

Part 2: A set of statements against 8 of the role Key Responsibilities.

  • This must be contained within 3 sides of A4 and written in 11-point font.
  • This is an opportunity for you to explain how your experience relates to the role’s 15 key responsibilities.
  • You should select the 8 key responsibilities against which you believe you can provide the strongest evidence of achievement. For each of your selected key responsibilities explain how you believe you have been effective, citing the challenges/problems you have faced, your actions and behaviours, the impact achieved and your learning from the experience. Do not write hypothetical answers saying what you will do - we want to know what you have done, with examples. Performance improvement data and trend metrics should be cited wherever possible.

2. Your CV

Please provide a CV which should detail:

  • Your full name and postal address;
  • Work and home telephone number, mobile number and email address;
  • National Insurance number;
  • Relevant professional qualifications (with dates obtained)
  • Current membership(s) of relevant professional associations/institutes and dates;
  • Current or most recent salary;
  • All posts occupied with dates, start and end-dates and the core challenges of the role.

Experiences gained from career gaps can be cited (where relevant to the post) as they will often relate to those of our tenants: such insights have bearing on the organisation’s core purpose.

Selection Timetable

The timetable for the Selection Process is included below. If you have any difficulty with the outlined dates and/or any other dates when you are unavailable for assessment, please let us know at the end of your letter. We try to offer flexibility, but it can be difficult to convene the selection panel outside the advertised selection dates due to their diary commitments.

We suggest that you allow yourself ample time to submit your application in advance of the deadline. Applications received after the deadline will NOT be considered.

Assessment and Selection Process

All applications will be considered and assessed against the roles key responsibilities and the Person Profile in order to select an initial short-list of candidates. If you have been successful at this stage ema will contact you via telephone/email immediately following the initial shortlisting meeting.

If you are unsuccessful at this stage, you will receive a letter from ema informing you of this decision.
